Join Our Team – Make a Difference in Your Community

Are you looking for a meaningful way to give back to your community? Considering a future in the medical field? Many healthcare professionals—including doctors, nurses, physician assistants, and more, began their journeys as Emergency Medical Technicians (EMTs).

Waterville Emergency Medical Services is a volunteer-based department dedicated to delivering exceptional care to the residents and visitors of Douglas County. We’re seeking passionate, community-minded individuals to join our team and help us continue providing high-quality emergency medical services with competence, compassion, and humility.

Opportunities to Serve

There are several ways to get involved, whether you're pursuing a career in healthcare or simply want to make a positive impact:

  • Emergency Medical Technician (EMT)
This is our most common entry point. EMTs provide care on scene and during transport. No experience or certification? No problem—we can help connect you with training opportunities and may offer tuition assistance. You'll begin by working alongside seasoned providers, gaining hands-on experience before transitioning to more independent roles.

  • Emergency Vehicle Operator (EVO)
Not sure patient care is your calling? EVOs are a vital part of our team. You’ll receive CPR and first aid certification along with in-house training. EVOs help on scene and drive the ambulance but are not responsible for direct patient care.

  • Auxiliary Member
Prefer to work behind the scenes? Our auxiliary team supports administrative, logistical, and community outreach efforts. It's a great way to contribute without responding to emergency calls.

  • Student Volunteers
We welcome high school students seeking volunteer hours or looking to explore a future in emergency services.

Why Join Us?

At Waterville EMS, we’re more than just a team, we’re a family of public servants and community leaders who answer over 200 calls for aid annually. From medical emergencies and rescues to traumatic injuries and cardiac arrests, every call we answer makes a difference.

We may be a small department, but we are proud, strong, and deeply committed to those we serve. Volunteers are the heart of our organization, and we are always looking for dedicated individuals ready to step up and make an impact.

If you're interested in joining our team, or just have questions, we’d love to hear from you.

Together, we can continue to make Waterville a safer, healthier place for everyone.

Neighbors Serving Neighbors Since 1959
We’re everyday people who chose to step up for our community. Some of us felt a calling, others just saw a post or heard there was a need. What we all have in common is that we took the first step. Most of us had no medical experience when we started, but with training, support, and a great team that feels like family, we learned. Now EMS is second nature. If you’ve ever wanted to help, learn new skills, or be part of something meaningful, this is your chance.
