Waterville EMS: Standing With Our Community in the Fight Against Opioid Overdose

At Waterville EMS, we are deeply committed to the health and safety of our community. We recognize that the opioid crisis has touched the lives of many, including friends, neighbors, and loved ones. Overdoses don't only happen to those struggling with addiction. They can also happen to people experimenting for the first time.

As part of our mission of "Neighbors Serving Neighbors," we are dedicated to reducing opioid-related harm and empowering our community to save lives. Through free community classes, we teach how to recognize the signs of an opioid overdose and how to safely and confidently use Narcan (naloxone) to reverse its effects.

Together, we can make a difference.

If you would like to attend a class or learn more, please reach out to us at Info@WatervilleEMS.org.

We’re here for you, because every life matters.

What Is Narcan?

Narcan (naloxone) is a medication that reverses opioid overdoses by blocking the effects of opioids in the brain. It helps restore breathing and can save a life in minutes.

  • Safe – won’t hurt someone even if they didn’t overdose

  • Easy to use – no needles; just a nasal spray

  • Legal – anyone can carry it in Washington State

⚠️ Signs of an Opioid Overdose

  • Won’t wake up or respond

  • Slow or stopped breathing

  • Blue lips or fingernails

  • Gurgling or snoring-like sounds

  • Pale, cold, or clammy skin

What to Do in an Overdose:

  1. Call 911 immediately

  2. Give Narcan – spray into one nostril

  3. Wait 2–3 minutes; give a second dose if no response

  4. Stay with the person until help arrives
